A coastal walk from Es Canar to Santa Eulària

A coastal walk from Es Canar to Santa Eulària

In the vicinity of our hotel you can go for pleasant walks, like the coast trail that leads from Es Canar to Santa Eulària des Riu, a simple 8km walk that combines the shore, paths and footbridges. Plus coves, beaches and beach bars on the way. Sounds good, right?

Given its characteristics, this coastal walk can be done any time of the day in spring or summertime, as there are many chances of taking a break in the shade, having a snack or even going for a swim along the trail. This is the perfect route if you're looking for an easy walk that allows you to stop at coves, enjoy the landscape or sit down for lunch at one of the beach bars, restaurants or beach clubs along the walk.

From Es Canar to Santa Eulària: from cove to cove

The walk starts at Es Canar, practically at the doorstep of our modern 4-star hotel. For starters, head towards the famous hippy market of Punta Arabí, the first stop on this route where you can browse the stalls if it’s a Wednesday or during the peak season. After the hippy market, less than a kilometre further on, you’ll find the first beach on this coastal walk to Santa Eulària: Cala Martina. This cove is known for its shallow waters, perfect for stand up paddleboarding. Then the walk continues by the sea, with short stretches along clifftops with gentle slopes and rocky areas that treat you to stunning views of the coastline.
Further on, you’ll find S’Argamassa, which still preserves the remains of an old Roman aqueduct that is believed to have supplied water to a fish farm where they kept the fish they caught alive. This spot, which is easy to miss, is one of the surprises on this walk that history buffs most love. If you're travelling with kids, near S'Argamassa you’ll find the only zipline park in Ibiza, which can be extra fun on a family walk.

On the way to Santa Eulària

The route continues along the coast and encourages you to take a break for a swim in Cala Pada, one of the most family-friendly beaches in Santa Eulària, and Es Niu Blau, both great to relax on its golden sand or have a coffee, snack or paella on the seafront. During the last stretch of the walk, the trail goes along the edge of low clifftops past the viewpoint of Punta de s’Esglèsia Vella with splendid views of the bay and the seascape of Santa Eulària. According to the legend, the first church of the village stood on this spot but it collapsed just after mass on the first Sunday of May one year. Fortunately, none of the parishioners were hurt. This is the origin of the local fiestas held in the village every year on the first Sunday of May, one of the most popular traditional festivities on the island.
Once you reach Santa Eulària, you can keep on walking along the promenade up to the mouth of the river, where you can continue the riverside trail that leads to Puig de Missa, an excellent example of an Ibizan fortified church.

Between Es Canar and Santa Eulària: places to eat or have a drink

One of the greatest appeals of this route is the many stops available to eat on the way, including beach bars, restaurants and beach clubs for all tastes and budgets.
Chirincana: an easy going beach bar with fantastic views and a pleasant vibe.
Cala Martina: a classic beach bar known for its paellas. Somewhere to get your strength back after the walk?
Sa Trenka: fish and rice dishes at this seafront restaurant at the southern end of Cala Martina.
Nikki Beach Ibiza: a proper beach club that’s perfect to rest and chill after the walk.
La Bodega Spanish Restaurant: a mid-way break with Spanish tapas.
Toni Can Parot: to eat simple Med food with your feet in the sand in a friendly, chilled atmosphere.
Brisa de la Mar: rice dishes and traditional food served at this family restaurant in a century-old house.
Restaurante Niu Blau: a cosy restaurant that serves Ibizan and Spanish food. It’s a great option for a romantic dinner in the evening.
Santa Marta Ibiza: from breakfast to dinner, you’ll love their brunches and modern Mediterranean food.
Soul Good: a stop to rest for a beer or a snack before getting to Santa Eulària.
