Route through the north of Ibiza

At only a few kilometers from Es Canar and the Anfora Hotel you’ll find one of the less altered territories of the island: the north. It’s villages, small beaches and agricultural valleys show the most intimate side of Ibiza, the one that keeps its connection with the country side and the slower pace of life. Rent a car and follow our route in 7 easy stops.

1. First stop: Sant Carles de Peralta

You’ll get to this little village, close to Es Canar, in just a few minutes. Waiting for you, there is a lovely church, the famous Ibiza’s herb liqueur in Bar Anita, the ice creams of Viccio, the interesting Es Trull de Ca n’Andreu (an antique agricultural house that shows how life was in Ibiza’s countryside of yesterday) and the famous Las Dalias Market, that takes place every Saturday of the year and, during summer, also on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.

2. Trio of beaches

After San Carles, you’ll find 3 lovely beaches where to lay your towel for a while: Es Figueral, Aigües Blanques and Cala San Vicent. The latter has 2 lovely restaurants to consider if you want to come back for lunch: Can Gat with a Sea Cusine, and On the Beach, where one of the best hamburguers of the island is served. Following the road to San Joan de Labritja, don’t forget to visit the Church of Sant Vicent de Sa Cala, probably the remotest of the whole island.

3. Sant Joan de Labritja

You must stop in this village, with just a few houses, to see its church, taste its herb liqueur at Can Vidal tobacco shop or take a coffee at the Vista Alegre restaurant. If your visit is on a Sunday, you’ll find a pleasant Market with ecological products as well as arts and crafts.

4. From beach to beach

The winding roads that start in San Joan lead you to lovely and quite little beaches like Cala d’en Serra, Portinatx, Cala des Xuclar, S’illot des Renclí and Cala Xarraca, all of them hiding in the curves of the abrupt northern coast. After those, Cala Benirràs comes into sight, with its iconic Cap Bernat islet sticking out in the sea.

5. Can Marçà cave

The cliffs that stand near Puerto de San Miguel hide the most relevant cave of the island, Can Marça, where the water erosion has formed stalactites, stalagmites, columns and wide rooms. If you’re hungry at this point, right next to the cave, at Port Sant Miquel, you’ll find Port Balansat, one of the most famous fish and rice restaurants of the island.

6. Sant Miquel de Balansat

It’s church, at the top of a hill, is an excellent example of an Ibiza fortified church. If you feel like some Ibiza’s herb liqueur, in the bar – tobacco shop Can Xicu, they serve one elaborated by themselves.

7. San Mateu d’Albarca

Consisting only of a church and a few houses around it, this small parish shows how populated areas were distributed in the interior of the island in ancient times: self-sufficient agricultural houses spread over valleys and hills and the parishes as a reunion point where to do your shopping, socialize with neighbours and assist at the weekly mass.
