Ibiza and the Dutch
These last few years, Ibiza has become an increasingly popular destination among the Dutch. This isn’t by chance. The love that many Dutch people have developed for our island started after the South African World Cup when many football players came to the island to celebrate Heiting’s wedding. But it wasn’t the players but a film that spread the wish to come to Ibiza among the Dutch: Verliefd op Ibiza (In Love with Ibiza). This film was a great success in the Netherlands with over 500,000 spectators and this prompted a TV series.

But far before this, there were other Dutch people who came to Ibiza and fell in love with the island, like the painter Jan Cremer, the writer Harry Mulish and the journalist and writer Jan Gerhard Toonder. Or other Dutch people who now live on the island, such as the couple Ivonne and Henk Nuyten, owners of Sluiz; Jelle Oomes, the creator of Blue Marlin; and the Zandwijk family who own two restaurants in Cala San Vicent where you will frequently find Dutch people: On the beach and The boat house.
